Laszlo Fodor's story began in Hungary, but it was shaped by courage, perseverance, and an unwavering determination to build a better life. In 1956, at a young age, Laszlo fled Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution and the Soviet invasion that followed. He escaped across the border into Austria, where he spent approximately a year living in a refugee camp while waiting for an opportunity to begin a new life. Eventually, Laszlo was granted asylum in the United States. He arrived in America with the opportunity to start over—and he made the most of it.  Through hard work, determination, and an extraordinary work ethic, Laszlo built a life and career in Middle Tennessee. He became a general contractor and licensed electrician, eventually specializing in high-end custom homes throughout rural communities. But perhaps his greatest accomplishment wasn't any individual home he built. It was the foundation he created for his family. Laszlo believed in working hard, solving problems, doing things properly, and taking pride in the work you put your name on. Those principles became lessons he passed on to his son, Steven, who began working alongside him at just eight years old. From roofing to custom home construction, Steven learned the trade at his father's side. More importantly, he learned the values behind the work: integrity, craftsmanship, perseverance, and the importance of earning people's trust. Father and son shared a genuine love for building homes together. The time they spent working side by side became some of Steven's most treasured memories and shaped the foundation of the contractor he would eventually become. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Laszlo became sick and sadly passed away. His passing marked the end of a remarkable journey, but not the end of his legacy. The company Steven founded, Fodor & Sons, is in many ways a continuation of the life Laszlo worked so hard to build. It is a way to honor the knowledge he passed down, the sacrifices he made, and the values he lived by. Laszlo came to America as a refugee with little more than the opportunity to begin again. Through determination and hard work, he built a family, a career, and a legacy. Today, his story continues through his son through every home Fodor & Sons helps build and transform.
